Small businesses are in a difficult spot right now. The COVID-19 pandemic along with other societal issues has forced many shops to keep their brick and mortar doors closed while they try to ride the wave to the other side. It has always been our mission here at Dune to not only highlight the makers and artists that we carry in our shop, but to be a beacon of light and support here in the Stoughton community that we call home.

We’re so proud to be members of this small town in southern Wisconsin, and we’re in great company. There are so many great small businesses to explore in Stoughton, from restaurants and art galleries to bakeries and game shops. Today, we’re highlighting just three of our favorite fellow shops in Stoughton in the hopes that, if you’re able to, you’ll keep an eye out for ways to support them as we all navigate the uncertain world together.

3 Shops to Check Out in Stoughton

Grasshopper Goods

Grasshopper Goods is a gifting and lifestyle boutique located right next to Dune on Main Street in Stoughton. However, it’s not just a brick and mortar. This shop also operates out of a truck as a mobile boutique, bringing unique items like t-shirts with fun sayings like “Midwesty” and relaxed, but luxe, accessories, to events around the state. Karen, the founder of Grasshopper Goods, has become a great friend of mine over the years, and I can’t thank her enough for her support of Dune, especially throughout the crazy rollercoaster of COVID. We’ve grown together, and our businesses have grown together. I feel lucky to be neighbors with a shop like Grasshopper Goods.

Woodland Studios

As a creative myself, I’m thrilled that Woodland Studios exists in Stoughton. This artisan printing and framing shop/art gallery combo is an artistic gift to the community, fostering the work of local and regional artists. Woodland Studios also features Scandinavian folk artifacts, which showcases a treasured aspect of Stoughton’s history. In addition to their support of artists close to home, they offer framing services that allow you to create custom frames for your cherished art works, whether they are your own or prints that you’ve purchased from other makers. Their high quality work makes me proud to support them, and I would encourage you to check them out whether you need something framed, or if you just want to discover a new work of art.

Stoughton Floral

When the going gets tough, get yourself a bouquet of flowers. We like to support local florists instead of going for a big box delivery brand, and Stoughton Floral is right down the street from Dune which makes the choice simple. We love this shop’s colorful, unique arrangements, from those that are available when you walk into the shop to their custom creations. Keeping fresh flowers in our home throughout quarantine has kept our mood light and optimistic, giving us something to look forward to each time we decide to treat ourselves. If you’re looking for a similar feeling, we’d go with Stoughton Floral.

If you’re looking for ways to encourage the success of your community’s small businesses during this time, these three shops are a great place to start. We’re so thankful for your support over the past months, and we look forward to continuing to serve you, in the shop and online.
